Age: unknown, looks to be late 20s, early 30s
Appearance: In uniform, out of uniform

History: LINK
Personality:
  • Controlling — Because of the nature of Midnighter's violent and dangerous lifestyle, coupled with his precognition for how scenarios will go down in any fight, he will often make decisions that affect others without asking. He "recognizes" patterns and how things will go down, so he will take action immediately for the "benefit" of others.

One of the biggest examples of this behavior is when Midnighter, after meeting a new man on a first date and takes him home for the night, comes up behind the man and implants a microchip in his neck without consent. His explanation for this incredibly problematic behavior is so that the man can contact him if an emergency comes up. People in Midnighter's life can get tangled up in his very dangerous and violent lifestyle, so he makes the decision to force a one-way communicator on anyone in his sphere of influence, whether they agree or not. Unsurprisingly, the man tells Midnighter he is "coming on strong" and it ruins any romantic relationship that could have grown between them from that moment on.

Another example of this controlling behavior is when he decides that his relationship with Apollo (a teammate and lover) should be over. He tells Apollo that he knows how this fight will end and that he doesn't "know how to lose," implying it can only go badly and he would rather leave before it comes to a head. Midnighter does not give Apollo the freedom to choose or react in this situation. He simply makes the decision for both of them, one that Apollo believes is a loss for Midnighter even if he can't see it.

There are several other examples peppered through his canon as he takes down "evildoers" and misguided criminals, forcing them to bend to his way, do as he wishes, because he believes he knows how it will end anyway.

  • Sadistic — Unlike a lot of "super heroes," Midnighter genuinely enjoys inflicting pain on others. He considers himself a psychopath, someone who displays amoral and egocentric behavior, and will go out of his way to brutalize evildoers or anyone who gets in his way.

This is expressed in the variety of weaponry he uses to inflict harm on an opponent. Midnighter will use crowbars, small sickles, his bare hands, all things that require a lot of physical force and trauma to a body. He doesn't consider the best way to quickly and quietly neutralize an opponent. Instead Midnighter will be a beacon of attention to bring in several opponents at a time, so he can have more fun.

In one instance, Midnighter renders a criminal unconscious, then takes the time to string them up spread eagle and naked over a very tall drop off in order to extract information from them. Once he has what he needs, Midnighter leaves him there. Who knows if he ever got free. If the the true goal of this interrogation had been the information, he could have found quicker, more efficient ways to extract it. Instead he chose to take a lot of time to set up an elaborate threat for his own pleasure. This is also something Midnighter mentions to a fellow teammate.

Midnighter threatens to see how many hot sauna stones he can force feed into a suspect if he doesn't give up some information. His teammate at the time asks him, "Shouldn't you already know how many?" Midnighter replies, "It's the journey, not the destination."

  • Arrogant — Again, the fight computer installed in his brain allows him to effectively predict the outcome of a battle before it even begins. Because of this, Midnighter is used to coming out on top in most scenarios just as predicted. And that makes him arrogant and sometimes complacent when dealing with friends and enemies alike.

He will speak matter-of-factly, tell people what will happen because he believes he "knows" how everything will end. This happens plenty when he is thwarting criminals, but one of the most obvious examples of this is when he threatens Dick Grayson, his current teammate, that this trek in the desert to save the life of a newborn baby will not end the way Grayson thinks. Throughout their entire journey, he tries to bully Grayson into giving him the child because it's inevitable. Midnighter tells Grayson that he will eventually succumb to heat exhaustion and that afterward he (Midnighter) will be the only one left alive because he is super human. He says this even when he is exhausted and falling behind Grayson. He can't understand why Grayson can continue onward when Midnighter himself cannot.

His arrogance led him astray in this scenario, unable to believe Grayson could survive when all of his calculations said otherwise.

  • Loyal — Midnighter is definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but those who do stick around will never be left wanting. Despite his "strong" and "controlling" personality, he is only ever just a phone call away. Especially if you get a microchip forced on you. Often in his canon, Midnighter's personal time will be interrupted by emergency calls from friends using their one-way microchips. He will stop everything he is doing to support anyone in need of his help. Hell, he'll field calls while he's in the middle of a battle to talk to friends looking for advice and support.

A good example of this is when the criminal (whose husband was killed and she sought revenge) is apprehended. Midnighter tells her that he will be there for her once her sentence is up and she is released from jail. True to his word, he actually shows up to pick her up and drive her home.

He also lets himself be pulled out of bed, sending his date home for the evening, when Grayson needs to make use of his hefty surveillance equipment for an important mission. This is notable because neither would likely consider the other a friend, but Midnighter still agrees to help and turn his house into basecamp for many other heroes.

So, in spite of his overbearing and arrogant personality, Midnighter is a loyal and dependable friend who will drop everything to help those in need. And if he makes a promise, he will do everything in his power to keep it.

Powers and Abilities:
  • Battle Precognition — Midnighter possesses a neural-inductive combat simulator in his head, which allows him to calculate the course of a battle before it even begins
  • Enhanced strength, speed, endurance — His musculature is lined with carbon fiber, which boosts his physical feats
  • Accelerated healing — He does not heal instantly, but he has intentionally ruptured his own eardrums, which eventually healed back completely
  • Master combatant and tactician
  • Weapons expertise

Inventory:
  • 1x duffel bag with his Midnighter uniform
  • Handful of communication implants — These are small microchips implanted into a person's neck to create a one-way connection device directly to Midnighter's internal computer. It cannot be used to communicate with anyone else, and only the injected person can begin communication. Midnighter cannot.

(If this is acceptable, how many can Midnighter come with?)
